About
Us

Generative AI and Large Language Models have evolved from laboratory experiments into core infrastructure, powering everyday tools from search engines to customer service.

However, the software engineering practices used to build, deploy and govern these complex systems currently rely on tools designed for older, traditional software.

This mismatch has created bottlenecks. AI pipelines suffer from massive energy and water consumption, security vulnerabilities, and dependence on non-European hardware ecosystems. Furthermore, ensuring that AI models are fair, unbiased, and compliant with strict regulations like the EU AI Act remains difficult.

The OptimAIse
Mission

Our primary goal is to advance the science of AI software engineering by delivering a scalable, modular, and open-source reference architecture. We will provide a framework that prioritizes energy efficiency, leverages innovative European hardware, and embeds trustworthiness and transparency directly into the core of AI development.

Core Objectives

To enable streamlined operations and position Europe at the forefront of trustworthy AI, our project focuses on five main objectives:

  • Reference Architecture and Validation: Delivering a flexible, open-source framework for building and deploying AI systems, validated through industrial pilots.
  • European Hardware Integration: Deploying models on highly efficient European hardware solutions (such as SpiNNaker2 and STX) to reduce dependency on foreign providers and maximize efficiency.
  • Smart Resource Orchestration: Creating an intelligent orchestration engine that automatically adjusts computing resources in real-time to optimize for speed, privacy, and environmental impact.
  • Trustworthiness by Design: Embedding explainability, fairness, and security directly into the AI life cycle as core engineering requirements, rather than treating them as an afterthought.
  • Immutable Auditability and Traceability: Establishing a cryptographically secure, tamper-proof end-to-end tracking system throughout the AI development process to guarantee accountability and compliance with the EU AI Act.
OptimAIse significantly advances the state-of-the-art. By developing new mechanisms, tools, and an entirely GenAI-oriented framework, the project solves critical developer bottlenecks. We will deliver a trustworthy, flexible, and high-performance ecosystem of components that will allow European SMEs to capitalise on existing expertise. Ultimately, this will contribute to securing EU sovereignty and leadership in transparent, unbiased, and ethical AI systems, powered by highly efficient European hardware.
